EXCLUSIVE: Taran Adarsh opens up on Cirkus; says, “I feel that the film was very bad. It did not feel like a Rohit Shetty directed film”

Taran Adarsh talks on Cirkus being a bad film.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Taran Adarsh while explaining the importance of trailer of films said, “I believe the first impression created in front of the audience is by trailer of the film. When the trailer of your film gets rejected, criticized, or trolled, it gives out bad signals”.

Sharing his experience from the past, Taran said, “In 70s-90s, only trailers used to be played in theatres. In that era, I had seen Amar Akbar Anthony’s, Don, Kasme Vaade’s trailers and I could see the reactions in theatres; people were clapping. The artists of the film did not come to promote their films, rather the trailer used to convey the film’s concept. Unfortunately, many a times we could see that our trailers get rejected as soon as they are launched on social media. This happens because the expectations of the audience have increased and has become humongous”.

“At the same time, the buzz that one is trying to create be it by songs or by teasers, if it fails to create an impression, then the film is not likely to get a good opening. Unfortunately, this is what went wrong with Cirkus, though I feel that the film was also very bad and terrible. It did not feel like Rohit Shetty’s film because the director has earlier made entertaining and larger than life films”, Taran added.

Continuing conversation regarding how pandemic brought a shift from theatres to OTT platforms, Taran shared, “One more unfortunate thing that happened was, we made films that are now seen on OTT platforms. It is not the producer’s fault; rather it happened due to the circumstances that stopped everything worldwide. The films that were already made or were under production tried to complete the film as soon as possible and started releasing them. That is when people realised that latest films can also be seen on OTT”.

Further giving relevant example, Taran stated, “I would like to single out one actor, i.e., Ayushmann Khurrana. When people saw his films like Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui or An Action Hero, they realized that these kinds of films can be seen on OTT itself. Which is why a section of audience started shifting towards OTT platforms.
