Mandira's Parents' Track
The deleted scenes also feature an entire track involving Kajol's parents (played by Shishir Sharma and Suhasini Mulay). The scene shows Kajol having a tele-conversation with her parents who are very upset with her proximity to a Muslim guy. Though Kajol's performance in the scene is quite remarkable the scene as such seems quite clichéd and has rightly been chopped off from the final product. -

The much awaited DVD of Karan Johar's super-hit film My Name Is Khan was launched yesterday by the director himself. Besides the usual stuff like the making of the film, the theatrical trailer etc., the DVD features almost 45 minutes of deleted scenes. Each deleted scene is preceded by a short intro by Karan Johar in which he speaks about the significance of the scene and the reasons why it failed to make it in the end product. He also adds that it was indeed a tough task for his editor Deepa Bhatia to decide which scene to retain and which one to chop off. While many of the deleted scenes are genuinely heart-warming, some are plain ordinary. We bring you some of the best moments from the unseen footage which couldn't make the final cut. Take a close look at some of these scenes and you will realise that this DVD is indeed a must-buy for all KJo-SRK-Kajol fans.
Rizwan's journey from childhood to San Francisco
This section features some deleted scenes from the early part of the film where a young Rizwan (played by the supremely talented Tanay Chedda) gets valuable tips on life from his loving mom (played beautifully by Zarina Wahab). By now its common knowledge that Rizwan's character in the film has the god-gifted talent of 'repairing almost anything' and this very trait is depicted in some of the deleted scenes like the one in which a young Rizwan repairs an old watch. The section ends with a scene featuring Soniya Jehan (who plays Rizwan's caring sister-in-law) taking a now grown up Rizwan (Shah Rukh Khan) to the American Autistic Society. Shah Rukh's expression on seeing other autistic people and his joy at getting his hands on a Rubik's Cube indeed makes this scene a must-watch. -

Tere Naina - Alternate Cut
The beautiful 'Tere Naina' track depicts the first burst of romance between Rizwan and Mandira's (Kajol) characters in the film. While the song did feature in the film, some fun filled moments like Navneet Nishan's character calling SRK, Raju Guide (as he keeps giving details about the history of San Francisco) and SRK accidentally staring at Navneet's cleavage indeed makes for good viewing. There is also a sequence in the song in which Kajol's character Mandira is shown having tequila shots in a pub and dancing away to glory much to Rizwan's amusement which is quite an entertaining watch. -

Sajda - Alternate Cut
This is probably the most entertaining of the deleted scenes. Most of the shots were supposed to feature during the 'Sajda' song but unfortunately had to be chopped off. The cute sequence in which Kajol playfully winks at Shah Rukh even as he tries to kiss her from far features in this section. There's also a hilarious shot in which Dominic Renda (who plays SRK and Kajol's neighbour Mark in the film) plants a kiss on SRK's lips. The song also has unseen footage of Kajol gifting Shah Rukh various tools and equipments with which he can happily repair almost anything. Must say this whole sequence is sorely missed in the film. -

Sam's Death
In director Karan Johar's own words, "The sequences involving Sam's death were probably the most difficult to write and shoot. A lot of care had to be taken to make sure that the right emotions are conveyed without going overboard." Which is why this particular section featuring some unseen footage revolving around Sam's death make for an interesting watch. Here you get to see Shah Rukh curiously inspecting Sam's dead body lying on the surgical table and hoping that he is still alive. There is also a short little sequence depicting a prayer service held in memory of late Sam in which Kajol's performance is indeed very touching.
