After PK, fundamentalists target Bajrangi Bhaijaan

By Subhash K. Jha -

The season of intolerance is upon us. The makers of PK are under attack for allegedly denigrating the Hindu religion, a charge that director Rajkumar Hirani stoutly and emotionally denies.

After Aamir Khan who is being targeted as a 'traiter' for being part of an allegedly anti-Hindu film PK, it's time for the religious fundamentalists to train their trishuls on Salman Khan.

After PK, fundamentalists target Bajrangi Bhaijaan

Apparently, the next Salman Khan release Bajrangi Bhaijaan which is slated to open for Eid 2015 has already angered Hindu fundamentalists. In fact while protesting against PK some of these fundamentalists mentioned they wouldn't "tolerate" Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

The film's director Kabir Khan has apparently been getting threats.

Says Kabir, "I've been getting hate mail from a particular radical organization. They think the film promotes love jihad."

Under no circumstance is Kabir Khan willing to change the title, let alone the content of his film. "I will never surrender to such absurd demands," he says.

In a related incident some Hindu organizations have asked for a ban on the Telugu film Gopala Gopala which is a remake of the controversial Umesh Shukla film OMG Oh My God. On the basis of the trailer certain right-wing elements have found the content of Gopala Gopala to be "unparliamentarily".

It remains to be seen if the Andhra Pradesh government is able to stand up against the disruptive forces and allow the film to be released.
