Noted Marathi writer Vijay Tendulkar passes away

Well-known Marathi playwright Vijay Tendulkar, who was suffering from a prolonged illness, died at his Pune residence early today morning (May 19). Vijay, who started his career writing for newspapers, is best remembered for his Marathi plays like Ghashiram Kotwal and Sakharam Binder. He also wrote the screenplay for some Hindi films such as Nishant, Akrosh and Ardh Satya. The acclaimed writer, who won the National Award for Best Screenplay for Shyam Benegal's Manthan, was also the recipient of the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in the year 1984.
