Box Office: Akira hangs on in Week One, Happy Bhag Jayegi does well, Rustom brings in more

 

Akira, after a decent extended weekend of four days (which included partial holiday of Ganesh Chaturthi on Monday), managed to hang on during its Week One. The drops did come on, though that happened mainly from Tuesday onwards. When compared to other women-centric action films, this is how Sonakshi Sinha's Akira stands:

 

Jai Gangaajal - Rs. 25.2 crore

 

Akira - Rs. 26 crore*

 

Mardaani - Rs. 22.97 crore

 

NH10 - Rs. 20.60 crore

 

Though Priyanka Chopra's Jai Gangaajal couldn't collect much after its first week, Rani Mukerji's Mardaani and Anushka Sharma's NH10 were powered by word of mouth and went on to collect Rs. 35.82 crore and Rs. 32.39 crore respectively. While Akira will definitely cross Rs. 30 crore and most likely also go past NH10, it has to be seen how much does it come close to Mardaani.

 

Baar Baar Dekho and Freaky Ali have released and these films are occupying a good number of screens within themselves. That said, Akira too has been continued in theatres by exhibitors which gives this Fox and AR Murugadoss film to bring in more moolah.

 

Meanwhile, Diana Penty's Happy Bhag Jayegi has continued to do well at the Box Office. After being there in theatres for three weeks, the film has now collected Rs. 28 crore* already. This is a good number for the Mudassar Aziz directed film and as things stand today, it would have a lifetime of close to Rs. 30 crore.

 

Akshay Kumar's Rustom brought on some moolah though and currently stands at Rs. 127 crore*. While the film is a Superhit already, it has slowed down in its quest for crossing Airlift [Rs. 129 crore]. The film would now at maximum reach Rs. 128 crore since the shows have also been reduced considerably.
