Gangubai Kathiawadi, the Sanjay Leela Bansali directorial that was released on Friday last week opened to a thunderous response from the critics and audience alike. After exceeding expectations on its opening day, the business of the film saw an immense jump in collections on its second day running. Now on its third day, Gangubai Kathiawadi has yet again seen a massive spike in collections.

Collecting Rs. 39.12 cr in three days, Gangubai Kathiawadi manages to become Bhansali’s fourth highest opening weekend grosser. In fact, the business of the film manages to beat his earlier release Guzaarish that collected Rs. 15 cr, as well as some other films like Saawariya that collected Rs. 11.23 cr, Devdas that collected Rs. 6.15 cr, Black that collected Rs. 3.43 cr, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam that collected Rs. 2.86 cr, and Khamoshi – The Musical that collected Rs. 1.68 cr.

 

However, the business of Gangubai Kathiawadi does not surpass the collections of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s other releases like Padmaavat which collected Rs. 114 cr, Goliyon Ki Raasleel Ram-Leela that collected Rs. 52.75 cr, and Bajirao Mastani that had collected Rs. 46.77 cr.

 

Currently, Gangubai Kathiawadi continues to run with audiences thronging theatres. In fact, with the relaxation in pandemic protocols and increase in occupancy rates, expectations are that the business of the film will see further growth. In fact, trade expectations state that Gangubai Kathiawadi might just emerge as one of the director’s highest opening week grosser in the coming days.
