Akshay Kumar REACTS to Salman Khan’s statement on Rs. 1000 crore club: “I was very happy when Shah Rukh Khan’s films did such huge business; The kind of cinema and the kind of screenplay that we have, Hollywood cinema doesn’t have”

Akshay Kumar had a bad phase at the box office since 2022. The year 2023 also began on a sad note for him due to the mega debacle of Selfiee (2023). However, things got better for him as his film OMG 2 managed to cross the Rs. 150 crores mark despite the controversy, taboo subject and adult rating. At the same time, the other recent releases, too, did huge business. The other actor who jumped into the big league, just like Akshay Kumar, is Shah Rukh Khan. Both films of his, Pathaan and Jawan, entered the Rs. 500 crore club, spreading jubilation in the industry. Gadar 2, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani etc also were hits and added to the joy.

Recently, at the trailer launch of the Punjabi film Maujaan Hi Maujaan, Salman Khan said, “I feel that the Rs. 100 crore mark is going to be rock bottom now. Films are going to do business of Rs. 400, 500 or 600 crores plus now. Not just for the Punjabi industry. Even Marathi films are doing big numbers right now.” He further added, “Basically, people are going to the theatres once again to go and watch movies. Hence, collecting Rs. 100 crores is not going to be a very big deal. The bottom mark should be Rs. 1000 crores for a film right now!”

 

Akshay Kumar gave group print interviews on Friday, October 6, as part of the promotions of his film Mission Raniganj. He was asked about Salman Khan’s statement. To which, he replied, “I don’t know what he said. But I hope the industry gives more and more hits. I was very happy when Shah Rukh Khan’s films did such huge business. Many other films that did well like Gadar 2, OMG 2 etc. It is very good for the industry. The industry went through a very bad patch during COVID-19. But now things are moving.”

 

Akshay continued, “I hope our films can collect Rs. 2000 crore or even Rs. 3000 crores. We can also make Hollywood-type films. The kind of cinema and the kind of screenplay that we have, they don't.”
