Bollywood Hungama OTT India Fest 2024: Kubbra Sait speaks on focus given to green candy over Janhvi Kapoor in Ulajh scene as she speaks about product placement in films: "Movie is so good, and yet that ad placement stayed with me"
Kubbra Sait and Maanvi Gagroo addressed the growing use of product placement as a substitute for traditional ads in digital media, shedding light on how content creation and advertising are merging in the OTT space.
Kubbra Sait said, “I would rather listen. I recently saw a film where hero and heroine are having a conversation, and they literally leached out. It was Ulajh. If I want to say they literally leached out to like the scene, and they ate a candy, and the candy was in focus. And I watched this on my TV, and imagine the movie so good, and yet that ad, that placement, stayed with me until I'll talk about it right now. And I remember it was a green candy and a punchline where everything is made but sometimes it's really difficult. People have pointed this out.”
Maanvi Gagroo said, “Recently, I have seen Emily in Paris. So the latest season that came, I don't know if you saw the course that went viral when she is basically getting ready. And it's not even a proper scene, it's just a montage. And somebody on Tiktok took a screen grab of that and put it up on their thing, and they were analysing all the products on her dresser. Now, research has shown that the sale for those products after that post went viral, has shot out. So I see now whether it was intentional or whether the set designer just put, like, a bunch of random things from her back or something we don't know. But like, internet is divided on that. They haven't satisfied it. But yeah, people have gone, noted down those products and gone and bought it.”
