EXCLUSIVE: Bobby Deol on stellar 2023 for him and Sunny Deol after Animal and Gadar 2: “He keeps telling me ‘Come on! We have to get together’”

Actor Bobby Deol is garnering praise for his performance in Animal, helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead. He plays the antagonist in the role. Though the film has received polarizing reviews, it continues to smash box office records and garners praises for its performances. While fans have complained about the limited screen time of Deol, he considered this as a great opportunity to perform on the big screen.

In an interview with Bollywood Hungama, he spoke about the tumultuous career slump faced by not just him but also his older brother Sunny Deol. However, this year has been big for both him and Sunny as Animal is smashing records and Gadar 2 obliterated the box office. When asked about their journey, Bobby said, “He (Sunny Deol) was a bigger star than me, and then he lost that. I was a star. But before I could become anything bigger, my career went down. Yes, it is difficult, but he's never lost self-belief ever. He's a very strong man and he always believed that he just needed those kinds of people to believe in him. Those kinds of subjects would come his way. He proved it because 22 years later, he made a sequel to a film, which was made 22 years ago to break records. My brother’s the best.”

 

“We are each other's strengths, each other's weaknesses because I can't do without them and that's my weakness. When I'm with them, I feel so strong,” Bobby added.

 

Talking about the massive success of Gadar 2, Bobby said, “I felt on top of the world. You see him now and how he's feeling from me, he's so happy. He keeps telling me ‘Come on. We have to get together.’ I say ‘Yeah, we will have a get-together. We have to celebrate.’ But I've just been doing things and promoting and all.”

 

Animal was released in theatres on December 1, 2023 and has collected Rs. 246.23 crores in India.
