EXCLUSIVE: Huma Qureshi reveals she would not have signed Maharani pre-pandemic; says, “I would not have taken up the show if it was offered during non-pandemic time”

Bollywood is filled with some talented actors. One such actor who we cannot miss mentioning is Huma Qureshi. She has given great performances in films like Badlapur, Gangs of Wasseypur, Monica O My Darling and many more. This actress did not fail us to give us interesting performance even in the pandemic. Huma’s Maharani was one such piece of art that earned people’s interest and attention.

 

EXCLUSIVE: Huma Qureshi reveals she would not have signed Maharani pre-pandemic; says, “I would not have taken up the show if it was offered during non-pandemic time”

 

In the Bollywood Hungama Best Actress Round Table 2022 presented by Astroyogi, Huma opened up about her experience with Maharani, “When I signed the first season of Maharani, it was during the start of pandemic. It was the first Zoom narration I ever had for any script. I remember finding it quite interesting, but I still wanted to read it”.

 

Sharing her viewpoint on the script of Maharani, she said, “When I read it, there were a lot of concerns. One of them being the obvious that the industry has, i.e., it is the role of a female who has 2-3 kids of hers. If you do it, you might be slotting yourself. You still might have ten more years before you take up these kinds of roles. I would lie if I said I did not think about it or not questioned myself.”

 

Dealing with conflicting thoughts in her mind, she eventually cleared up the concerns. In reference to this, she further said, “But then I thought it was an amazing script, and I was so glad it happened during the pandemic because you get all the time to think about your reason of living or being an actor and basically all those existential questions that we all thought about or asked ourselves. I am very grateful as it was during that time I got this script. I don’t know maybe if I got this script during non-pandemic times, I would have not taken up the project and would have got distracted. It was only because I had all this time to really think about it.”

 

Taking her experience further, she said, “I felt I must do this project like it was the last time I was doing anything with whatever I got. I am extremely grateful to Subhash Kapoor sir for writing and conceiving this beautiful character and for trusting me with it. It is quite heavy lifting. It is twenty episodes down and is one of the most fulfilling characters that I have ever played. It is a proper character with nothing missing in it according to me”.
