EXCLUSIVE: Janhvi Kapoor on Bawaal becoming another digital release for her: “We can't ignore the fact that OTT platforms are a big part of the entertainment industry”

Bawaal promotions are on in full swing. The cast Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, director Nitesh Tiwari and film creators were in Dubai for the grand launch of the film. The actors also sat down with Bollywood Hungama to talk about the film taking the digital route, the importance of OTT platforms and their film. This movie marks Janhvi Kapoor’s fourth OTT release following Gunjan Saxena – The Kargil Girl, Good Luck Jerry and Mili. And in terms of team and scale, it is a bigger project with a National award-winning director, a popular actor and a big production house. So, was she bummed that this project also went to the digital platform?

Janhvi Kapoor said that all of them – Sajid Nadiadwala, Nitesh Tiwari, and Varun Dhawan are much more experienced than her and have more wisdom on what would work for a movie. She said, “All I know is that we've made a film that we all believe in a lot. And the agenda for any film is for it to reach audiences. And if collectively, we think that this is the best way for this film to reach as many people as possible, then I mean, I'm all for it. We made the film for the people.”

 

She added, “We can't ignore the fact that OTT platforms are a big part of the entertainment industry now, and we're all consumers of such platforms. So I think it's great.”

 

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, Bawaal is a timeless love story by Sajid Nadiadwala’s production banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment in collaboration with Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari and Nitesh Tiwari’s Earthsky Pictures. The film will premiere on Prime Video India on July 21.
