EXCLUSIVE: Sai Tamhankar -"When you look from the outside, people say a lot of things about Bollywood, but things are much better here"
Recently, in an exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Sai Tamhankar spoke at a length about juggling between all the characters and shoots, the experience of shooting with Bhumi Pednekar and upcoming plans. She also shared her upcoming plans for doing OTT.
You have a powerpack calendar ahead. How is it juggling between all the characters and shoots?
I think that's my life and I love it. I take utmost pleasure in doing all these things, getting dressed to play different characters, giving my 100% every time and being curious how people are gonna react to it. I just love all these things and it feels great in rushing into all the departments.
What does that process of switching on and off from various characters at the same time look like for you?
I think it is something that I'm ready for always and I'm very curious when doing so. I find the process, very interesting, sometimes exhausting, sometimes confusing. I have explored a lot of new emotions while preparing for these things or the whole process. I think I just love it, I love every part and every bit of acting.
What are the challenges that you face during all these preparations?
Well, sometimes the challenges are quite internal, in terms of how you are in your real life and what kind of character you are playing. Sometimes the character that you are playing can be so dark that it might just trigger you in some things have in your personal life, and you've got to handle and sometimes vice versa. So I think it's very internal and very emotionally, it's an emotional roller coaster ride and I think actors are all about that.
You recently wrapped up the shoot for Bhakshak. How was your experience with Bhumi?
Very nice. I think with time, things have also changed because I shot with Kriti Sanon also. I think all these people are very chilled out. They have no drama and they are punctual, they are sincere. I mean when you look from outside, people say a lot of things about Bollywood. But, I would want to tell them that no, people work hard and they really do and somebody must witness it and read it like Coronavirus ( laughs).
Many people have certain perceptions about Bollywood, and things are way too different when you go inside. What was your perception that changed drastically when you entered Bollywood?
I started at a very young, so honestly, there was no perception at all. It was all new and I just went with the flow. So I could never look at it like this because I never had any thoughts about the industry. I was so new that I could not even have the capacity to think. But I will tell you one thing definitely that still bothers me. The budgets are very different. There's a lot of difference between a budget of a regional film and a budget of a Bollywood film like a big-budget Bollywood film. I think that's the only thing that sometimes bothers me. But yeah, I accept accepted it.
Your film Pondicherry received a lot of acclamation from the audience as well as the critics. How does it feel to get such an overwhelming response?
Oh, it's like a booster shot. You are boosted up with energy and you're just wanting to Keep going. Sometimes we live such a busy life, we think about probably a million things in a day and in the middle of that if you get a nice boost of energy to just go on into work and to do more good work. It feels assuring and it seems amazing.
You're also returning to television after a long time. What do you think of Television as a medium?
I started my career with television only. I have done lot of TV and television is one medium that always amuses me because of the kind of reach it has, and the kind of I mean, you are part of every home. You can't even imagine that you must be a part of this home as well. So yeah, I know that quality about doing television.
What is your most preferred medium for acting now Television or Films?
No, I don't have I look at this as I look at everything as my work it does not matter where it goes. I think television has its own charm, Films have their own magic, the stage has its state of connecting with God itself. So these three mediums are equally exciting. It will be unfair to say this one is my favourite and this one is not.
Any upcoming plans for OTT?
I'm doing one web series for MX player. I'll be doing another called Binya and that's also for MX Player. I'll be also doing a Marathi web series Techpuram which is for Sony LIV.
