Here’s why Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan won’t have midnight shows on the day of its release despite heavy demand

After the pandemic, a new trend that emerged was to have shows at midnight and even early morning at 1:00 am or 2:00 am etc. Sooryavanshi (2021) was the first film to have had such shows in certain theatres. This was followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021), Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022), Drishyam 2 (2022), Avatar: The Way Of Water (2022), Pathaan (2023), Oppenheimer (2023) etc. Recently, Gadar 2, too, had round-the-clock shows. In certain cities and towns, it happened for the first time. Jawan is all set to release tomorrow, and it is expected to have such shows only from the second day of release.

A source told Bollywood Hungama, “As seen with Avatar: The Way Of Water and Oppenheimer, theatres usually play 12:00 am and 1:00 or 2:00 am shows on the day of release if there’s tremendous demand for the film. Jawan, as we know, has generated a historic craze. Yet, the makers and distributors have decided to not have shows before 6:00 am on Thursday, September 7.”

 

The source explains the reason behind it, “Jawan has some exciting twists. Also, as per reports, there are special appearances by popular actors. If Jawan is played from midnight, there’s a possibility that viewers might click pictures or shoot videos of these important scenes and post them on social media. Hence, even before the day begins for most moviegoers, the cat will be out of the bag. It won’t be fair. Hence, a practical decision was taken that round-the-clock showcasing can happen for Jawan but only from Friday, September 8.”

 

Meanwhile, some theatres have already begun the bookings for post-midnight shows on September 8. These cinema halls are Sanelite Cinemas, Science City, Ahmedabad at 12:15 am, MovieMax, Gulshan Noida at 12:00 am etc. Hundreds of other theatres will follow suit soon.

 

On the other hand, Miraj Cinemas, Newtown, Kolkata and Sanjay Cineplex, Motihari, Bihar will be the first ones to play Jawan on September 7. Their first shows commence as early as 5:00 am and as expected, they are nearly sold out.
