Pathaan: Deepika Padukone says, “I have been under-utilised in action”; compares it with dance and explains importance of rehearsals

Ever since her debut film, Om Shanti Om, Deepika Padukone has mesmerised the audience with her on-screen performances. From Dream Girl to an acid-attack survivor, the actress has portrayed numerous characters, all different from each other. Meanwhile, seeing her performing in Pathaan has impressed many. Speaking of the same at a press conference, held by YRF on January 30, Deepika stated that she has been under-utilised in the action genre.

In her words, Deepika said, “Many people don’t know that I love doing action. I have been under-utilised and didn’t do action. I think it is my athletic background. I have done a few movies, which had a little bit of action like my third film Chandni Chowk to China. So, I have done some action. I did Xander Cage with Vin Diesel. I love cable work. I absolutely love doing the action.”

 

Continuing further, the 37-year-old actress explained, “As I said earlier, action for me is like a dance. There is a lot of precision, especially when there are two people or more, you have to rehearse a lot. Actually, the take is not long, it’s the rehearsals, the almost meditative state you have to go into before you do action. You need to focus, you need to be centred, and you have to rehearse alone and with the team also.”

 

Concluding her take, Deepika said, “The shoot is not difficult at all. Of course, you have to be careful, you have to have safety… But I think the rehearsals before that are the most important part… I treated it like any other scene. I didn’t think of going to some different headspace. Be it action, comedy, romance, or crying, it has to flow.”

 

Speaking of Pathaan, besides DP, the spy thriller also features Shah Rukh Khan and John Abraham. The Siddharth Anand directorial was released on January 25. The film is doing well at the box office.
