In Ranveer Singh's cinematic journey, the 2013 film Lootera stands as a significant milestone, marking his evolution into a formidable actor in the Hindi film industry. Recently, during a candid conversation with casting director Mukesh Chhabra for Mashable India, director Vikramaditya Motwane opened up about the challenges and dedication that shaped the making of this poignant tale.

Ranveer Singh collapsed on the sets of Lootera, reveals Vikramaditya Motwane: “We had to chopper him out on the next day from Dalhousie”

Reflecting on the production, Vikramaditya recalled their arrival in Dalhousie in March, where the filming process began. It was during this initial phase that Ranveer sustained a back injury, a setback that could have easily derailed the project. "We came to Dalhousie in March. We shot for two days and Ranveer hurt his back. He said he will be fine. The next day, we shot a scene where he takes out the bullet from his waist... now Ranveer has worked himself up to a frenzy. That I want to feel the pain here and want to emote it on screen etc. He asked me, 'Sir what do I put here? I want to feel the pain.' I said just act, " Vikramaditya shared.

Vikramaditya highlighted an instance that truly captured Ranveer's dedication. In one scene, the narrative required Ranveer to simulate removing a bullet from his side. As Vikramaditya recalled, Ranveer was already worked up, expressing his eagerness to depict the character’s anguish authentically. To amplify his performance, he resorted to an unusual tactic. He used black paper clips, pinning them to his waist to mimic the sensation of being wounded. The director added, “So what he did was take some black paper clips and pinned them near the waist and then started running up and down the mountain to get into the moment because he has been shot and he has to come in sweating. He came then we shot the entire scene. By the end of the day when we had shot the entire thing, he finally takes out that clips. He has been feeling all that pain over there. He did not realize that his back was in spasm. He felt the pain here, but not on his back.”

The director noted, however, that this commitment to realism had its repercussions. Despite the actor’s intense focus on his craft, it took a toll on his physical health. The exertion led to significant strain, culminating in a moment where Ranveer collapsed. "He just collapsed and had to be taken out. We had to chopper him out on the next day from Dalhousie, so that schedule got cancelled," the director concluded.

Ranveer Singh is set to appear in Singham Again, directed by filmmaker Rohit Shetty. This forthcoming project features an ensemble cast that includes prominent figures such as Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Deepika Padukone, Akshay Kumar, and Tiger Shroff, among others. With a highly anticipated release scheduled for Diwali on November 1, the film will clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
