Shah Rukh Khan jokes about betting Rs. 5 lakh in poker with Aditya Chopra after Pathaan became a blockbuster: “Nobody had seen business like this”

Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan was honoured as the Indian of the Year 2023, where his stellar contributions to cinema with blockbusters like Pathaan and Jawan, along with the success of Dunki were acknowledged. In a poignant 10-minute speech in New Delhi on Wednesday night, Khan shared insights into his journey over the last few years. He also talked about how he came back with Pathaan which obliterated the box office and became a new benchmark for the box office in Hindi cinema with Rs. 1000 crore club. He said that days leading up to the release, he was a bit “scared” but once the film became successful, it was all celebration for him, director Siddharth Anand and producer Aditya Chopra.

Shah Rukh Khan said that he was ready to be Rs. 5 lakh in poker though he did say it was a joke. “After about 2-3 days, it became just unbelievable. We were like ‘oh, these are the numbers, no, this can’t be’. Poker mein 5 lakh ki chaal. I swear we don’t play with money this is a joke everyone,” he quipped, as reported by News 18.

 

“We don’t gamble, just play, without money. Don’t troll me for this. It’s just love that we share. I have lost a lot of love in the last two years,” he added.  “This is an unexpected kind of a business of a film. Nobody had seen business like this. Even the Yash Raj Films people, who have made the biggest of hits, nobody had seen (this).”

 

Shah Rukh Khan also reiterated that last year has not been a comeback but a place he always belonged to.  “It is not a comeback. It is actually a reiteration of the fact that I belong and I should continue to act,” he said.

 

Meanwhile, on the work front, Shah Rukh Khan is yet to announce his next project. However, he will be working with his daughter Suhana Khan in Sujoy Ghosh’s next.
