Thor: Love and Thunder: All you wanted to know about Christian Bale’s Gorr the God butcher

Yesterday the trailer of the Chris Hemsworth starrer Thor: Love and Thunder released to a rousing welcome from the audience. Giving a more detailed view of Christian Bale’s character Gorr, the trailer has been making headlines globally. However, there are some who are still looking for details on Bale’s character. Therefore, for all those who want more, here is all you wanted to know about Gorr the God Butcher from the Marvel comics.

First appearance: Thor: God of Thunder #2 (January 2013)

 

Origin: Gorr, who was born on a brutal planet Alpha Centauri VI, came to believe that the gods deserved nothing but butchery for refusing to answer the prayers of those in dire need, such as his dying wife and children. Gorr arrives at this conclusion after his planet was destroyed to birth an Eternal. The sole survivor of his planet, Gorr eventually becomes akin to a god with powers amassed through the destruction of other gods.

 

However, as per the comic Gorr grew up on a nameless barren planet where earthquakes, lack of water, and wild animals are common. No gods helped his people, but they still trusted blindly in their faith. When his mother, mate, and children died, he thought gods could not exist, because of which, he cast out by his tribe. Later when Gorr learned gods did exist but chose not help, he vowed to kill them all.

 

Mission: After suffering losses, Gorr believed gods could not exist, but once he confirmed that they did, he vowed to exterminate them all. Gorr planned to detonate a Godbomb that would destroy every god in all space and time.

 

Achievement: Gorr managed to enslave scores of gods to build it for him-including Thor along with his younger and older selves. The fact that he managed to murder so many of them is a testimony to his determination even more than his strength. Using the blood of gods, Gorr managed to travel through time.

 

First battle: Gorr first battled Thor a millennium ago, after which Thor thought he had slain him, but the God butcher survived and grew stronger. Later using his time travelling ability, Gorr plucked Thor from three different ages and forced him to construct a bomb that would destroy the gods throughout time and space.

 

Defeat: Gorr was defeated, when all the threatened gods prayed to Thor, who was able to stop the bomb and slay Gorr.
