Twinkle Khanna Highlights The 'Superiority Theory' of Comedy

Twinkle Khanna referenced the 'Superiority Theory' in her piece, a concept that suggests people often laugh at others’ misfortunes to feel superior. In her words: “Modern theorists tend to split jokes into three main categories. There is the Superiority Theory, where laughter is found at the expense of another’s misfortunes. This is perhaps why people enjoyed memes with ‘Akhiyon Se Goli Maare’ when one of my favourite comedians, Govinda, accidentally shot himself in the leg.”

She pointed out that while humour can bring light to difficult situations, there’s a fine line between laughing with someone and laughing at them. Khanna’s statement about the viral 'Akhiyon Se Goli Maare' jokes touches on how the internet can quickly turn real-life accidents into punchlines without considering the emotional toll it might take on those involved.

Govinda’s Accident and Recovery

The incident in question occurred when Govinda accidentally discharged his licensed revolver while placing it back in a cupboard. The bullet hit his leg, causing a significant injury, but fortunately, he made a swift recovery. In an audio statement shared by Shiv Sena leader Krishna Hegde, Govinda addressed his fans, saying, “Due to your blessings, my parents’ blessings, and the grace of my guru... I was shot, but the bullet has been removed.”

Following the accident, Govinda was hospitalised and later discharged on October 4, 2024, after recovering. Despite his injury, the Hero No. 1 actor appeared in good spirits, smiling and greeting fans as he left the hospital with his family. The accident left fans concerned, but Govinda thanked his supporters, medical staff, and the media for their prayers and well wishes.
