“Viru Sahastra Buddhe is inspired by Vidhu Vinod Chopra,” declares Vikrant Massey; reveals 3 Idiots' inspiration behind director’s quirky habits
Fresh off the success of his critically acclaimed film 12th Fail, Vikrant Massey is spilling the beans about his experiences on set. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who he claims shares some striking similarities with Boman Irani's iconic character Virus (which was played by Boman Irani) from 3 Idiots.
“Viru Sahastra Buddhe is inspired by Vidhu Vinod Chopra,” declares Vikrant Massey; reveals 3 Idiots' inspiration behind director’s quirky habits
Speaking to Samdish, Massey shared fascinating details about Chopra's personality and work ethic. "Vidhu Vinod Chopra is incredibly passionate," he revealed. "He works 16 hours a day even now, sleeps at 2 am, and still wakes up for a 7 am walk! He walks faster than me. The food you get at his house is outstanding he has 5-star chefs at home. ."
But what truly intrigued Massey was Chopra's dedication to routine. "For 30 years, he's taken an afternoon nap," Massey explained. "Lately, he has started listening to a podcast that is 28 minutes long and wherever he is in the world, he follows the circadian cycle."
Intriguingly, Massey drew a parallel between Chopra's habits and the eccentric "Virus" character. "Viru Sahastra Buddhe is inspired by Vidhu Vinod Chopra," he declared. "Just like how Virus used to lie down and get his beard shaved, that is Vidhu Vinod Chopra!"
The interview also delved into Massey's own career journey. He openly discussed leaving a high-paying television job to pursue his film dreams. "I earned well in TV," he admitted. "I bought my first house at 24. But the regressive content was stifling. I yearned to explore cinema." His decision surprised his family. "They were shocked," he said. "I was earning Rs 35 lakh per month, a huge sum for someone from my background. But I craved good work and peace."
Despite the initial struggle, Massey persevered. He confessed, "I quit TV at the time when I had a Rs 35 lakh per month contract in my hand. I decided to do good work and find peace. My savings got exhausted in a year and then my wife Sheetal (his girlfriend at the time) used to give me pocket money for auditions.”
