”I won 30 pounds from Akshay Kumar Sir” says Mission Raniganj actor Gaurav Prateek

Earlier seen in Balika Vadhu, Solah Sringaar, among other shows, actor Gaurav Prateek is all set to make his Bollywood debut with the movie Mission Raniganj, starring Akshay Kumar in the lead along with Parineeti Chopra in a pivotal role. Releasing on October 6, this Indian Hindi-language survival thriller film, based on the tragic Raniganj Coalfields collapse of 1989 in West Bengal, promises to be an intense cinematic experience.

Prateek will be essaying the character of Diwakar, who always stay with Jaswant Singh Gill (Playing by Akshay Kumar) like a shadow in the movie. He is a very special person to Jaswant in the movie. In their free time, Kumar used to play cricket with the entire star cast, and once they even made a bet that whoever defeated him would receive 10 pounds from him. Gaurav recalls this incident as he said, “Akshay sir loves playing cricket and he always used to play cricket with a lot of enthusiasm with everyone. Once, he even said that whoever gets me out will get 10 pounds. Famous director Ali Abbas Jafar also joined us to play cricket. So, one team was led by Ali Abbas Jafar, and the other team was led by Akshay sir. I won 30 pounds from Akshay sir and 10 pounds from Ali Abbas Jafar sir this way.”

 

Talking about the prize money, he reveals “I still have that prize as a cherished memory, as part of my London shoot memories, and I will always cherish it. I was very excited when I won money from him. I went to him and said, 'Akshay sir, I want your autograph on this currency note. I will always keep it as a memory.' He affectionately refused, saying that children don't take autographs on currency notes. That statement touched my heart. He values not only India but also other countries, that automatically increased my respect for him even more.”

 

Mission Raniganj is expected to release on October 3.
