Zoya Akhtar pens down a heartfelt post as Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt starrer Gully Boy turns five

Gully Boy, which brought forth the life of underground rappers in Mumbai, is considered to be one of the most loved films which released five years ago in 2019. The film starring Ranveer Singh as an aspiring rapper with Alia Bhatt as his girlfriend won the hearts of many. The film has now completed five years on the occasion of Valentine’s Day and along with that, filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti also marked the fifth anniversary of their production house, Tiger Baby.

In a heartfelt note, Zoya Akhtar dedicated a post to her first film under the production banner, Gully Boy. The video featured several onscreen and offscreen rappers like Ranveer Singh as Murad, Siddhant Chaturvedi who played MC Sher, real-life rappers like Emiway Bantai, Naezy, among others, who opened up about the film. Zoya also captioned the post with some famous quotes from popular rappers like Jay Z and J Cole. “A poet’s mission is to make words do more work than they normally do, to make them work on more than one level” - Jay Z. Nothing lasts forever, but atleast we’ve got these memories - J Cole,” she wrote in her note. She also went on to add, “Write me some of your fav rap lines ?? and Happy Valentines Day. May ?? Five years ago, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti's collaboration marked the inception of Tiger Baby, a production house committed to creating films that resonate with the Indian diaspora. The result of their first joint venture Gully Boy which also catapulted actors like Siddhant Chaturvedi and Vijay Varma to immense fame. The film also featured Kalki Koechlin in a pivotal role.

 

Earlier today, the filmmaker had also shared another post which she dedicated to her debut production under Tiger Baby, as she wished the team of Gully Boy on this special day.
