BTS' RM reflects on joy of friendship in serene 'Domodachi' music video feat Little Simz, watch

RM of BTS unveiled the music video for 'Domodachi' (feat. Little Simz), a track from his second solo album Right Place, Wrong Person, dropped on May 24. This marks the fourth installment in the five music videos tied to RM’s latest release. In alignment with the preceding videos, the new cinematic video highlights his artistic prowess that brought together a star-studded lineup of collaborators and style of production suited to each track.

Among the 11 alternative-genre tracks from Right Place, Wrong Person, 'Domodachi' (feat. Little Simz) is an alternative hip-hop track layered with enticing percussive sounds, featuring British rapper Little Simz. The track revolves around the theme of becoming friends by being together and the pure joy of dancing with those friends.

 

Building on the thematic thread established in the earlier music videos for 'Come back to me' and 'LOST!', the latest release brings RM's Maze music video trilogy to a close. The video begins with a teenage protagonist inadvertently entering a tunnel, facing various challenges while seeking an exit. With the help of a newfound friend, the protagonist eventually escapes the maze, only to return back into the tunnel. The music video adds an extra layer of artistic depth to the album, with its unique depiction of the evolved maze structure and the process of escaping it, as well as the transformed mindset of the one who breaks free, culminating in the final piece of the maze trilogy.

 

Continuing to showcase cutting-edge collaborations across all realms of pop culture, RM once again worked with Japanese director Pennacky for the music video for 'Domodachi' (feat. Little Simz), who also directed the music video for the album's B-side track 'Groin'. Pennacky, recognized for shaping Japan's independent music video scene through collaborations with esteemed J-pop artists such as Gen Hoshino, Aimyon, and Atarashii Gakko!, also notably worked with RM on Balming Tiger's 2022 music video for 'SEXY NUKIM' (feat. RM of BTS).

 

RM also recently dropped the music video for 'Groin'. The song stands out as the most raw and blatantly honest with a message directed to those one dislikes. The alternative hip-hop track flaunts an intriguing blend of rock sounds with an infectiously simple and addictive chorus. Shot in London, the music video begins with a scene where the camera dimly captures the unsteady movement through a spiralling basement staircase, evoking an eerie feeling. Soon after the scene fades to black, the video reveals RM dressed in casual streetwear, yawning as if bored with his surroundings. As he delivers candid lyrics, the shots alternate between various dynamic angles, some half-covered by a mirror, revealing different facets of RM not directly seen through the camera lens. RM navigates the empty streets and tunnels of the city, capturing a low-key and gritty atmosphere that aligns with the track's lyrics and message.

 

RM will unveil the final music video for a track from Right Place, Wrong Person on June 10 KST. The album offers a raw and honest exploration of RM's distinctive sensibility, aesthetics, and beliefs, delving into the relatable feelings of being a stranger, out of place.
