Elvis’ daughter Lisa Marie Presley passes away at the age of 54; Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson and more pay tribute

Lisa Marie Presley, the singer-songwriter and only child of Elvis Presley, passed away on Thursday after a brief hospitalization due to cardiac arrest.

According to Variety, Presley was hospitalized Thursday morning after suffering cardiac arrest at her home in Calabasas, California, just two days after she attended the Golden Globes with her mother Priscilla Presley. She was rushed to a hospital after paramedics performed CPR.

 

“Priscilla Presley and the Presley family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Lisa Marie,” the family said in a statement. “They are profoundly grateful for the support, love and prayers of everyone, and ask for privacy during this very difficult time.”

 

As New York Times reports, Lisa Marie’s mother Priscilla Presley said in a statement that her daughter had been receiving medical attention. She did not share further details. The mother and daughter attended Golden Globes 2023 on January 10 and saw Austin Butler win the Globe for his starring role in Elvis biopic.

 

As per the report, they also attended a pre-event party on Sunday for Elvis, where the family honored the King of Rock ‘n Roll. “I am so overwhelmed by this film and the effect that it’s had and what Austin’s done. I’m so proud. I know that my father would also be very proud,” Lisa Marie said at the event.

 

Following the news of Lisa Marie’s tragic death, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson shared their condolences via Instagram in a joint statement and said, “Tom and I had spent some time with the family during the Elvis movie promotional tour. Lisa Marie was so honest and direct, vulnerable, in a state of anticipation about the movie,” Hanks and Wilson wrote.

 

“She spoke so eloquently about her father, what the movie meant to her, that it was a celebration of her dad,” they continued. “She had her gorgeous daughters Finley and Harper with her who made us all laugh. She privately showed us her home, Graceland, and she made it feel like home to us. She was so gracious to us, Austin, Baz, and guests. If you haven’t heard her music please go listen.”

 

They added, “She had a sultry voice, a power and tenderness, that I have always loved. Our hearts and our prayers go out to Riley, Harper, Finley, Danny and Priscilla. A mother should never have to lose a child. Lisa Marie lost her precious son Benjamin, Priscilla loses her only daughter. It’s too much. Sending love to the family, prayers for peace and strength.”

 

 

 

Smashing Pumpkins' Billy Corgan, a longtime friend of Presley, also paid tribute on Twitter writing, “There is heartbreak and then there is sorrow. This would be sorrow and on more levels than I can count. Please send your prayers out for her family and children at this difficult time. I truly cannot find [sic] the words to express how sad this truly is.”

 

 

 

LeAnn Rimes also took to Twitter to mourn the death musician. “how heartbreaking,” she wrote. “i hope she is at peace in her dad’s arms. my heart goes out to her family. too much grief in just a couple of years.”

 

 

 

Other actors and industry members also reacted to Lisa Marie’s sudden death and offered condolences to her family.
