Disney's beloved Moana is charting a course back to the big screen this November in an all-new theatrical adventure titled Moana 2. Reuniting the original voice cast of Auli'i Cravalho as Moana and Dwayne Johnson as the demigod Maui, the sequel sets sail three years after the events of the first film. This time, Moana answers a new call from her ancestors, venturing into uncharted waters on a daring quest alongside a crew of unique seafarers.

Directed by David Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller, Moana 2 promises to be an epic expansion of the Polynesian mythology explored in the original film. The story follows Moana as she heeds the call of her wayfinding ancestors, embarking on a journey to the far reaches of Oceania. These uncharted and potentially dangerous waters hold the key to a mystery and an adventure unlike anything Moana has ever faced.

 

The film's soundtrack is sure to be another highlight, featuring the talents of Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foaʻi, and the returning composer from the first film, Mark Mancina. For those unfamiliar with the original 2016 film, Moana tells the story of a spirited teenager who defies tradition to become a master wayfinder and save her people. Setting sail on a daring mission, Moana encounters the powerful Maui, who becomes her reluctant guide. Together, they navigate perilous waters, encounter fantastical creatures, and ultimately, Moana fulfills her ancestors' quest while discovering her own true identity.

 

With its stunning animation, rich cultural themes, and empowering message, Moana quickly became a critical and commercial success. The film grossed over $640 million worldwide and garnered praise for its beautiful animation, catchy music, and celebration of Polynesian culture.

 

Moana 2 arrives in theatres on November 29, 2024.
