Oscars 2024 Winners: Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, Christopher Nolan reign with Oppenheimer; Emma Stone wins for Poor Things

The winners of the 96th Academy Awards have finally been unveiled, and they come with their fair share of surprises and snubs. Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, emerged as the frontrunner, which had previously secured an impressive 13 nominations. Nolan's direction was hailed by critics and peers alike, earning him a win for Best Director. Cillian Murphy's portrayal of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the tormented architect of the atomic bomb, earned him a well-deserved win for Best Actor. Additionally, Robert Downey Jr.'s supporting performance as a vengeful bureaucrat was recognized with an Oscar win. Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, featuring Emma Stone in a captivating role, followed closely with 11 nominations, secured the actress with Best Actress in a Lead Role win.

Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon also received significant recognition, earning 10 nods. While Leonardo DiCaprio was notably absent from the Best Actor category, Lily Gladstone's nomination for Best Actress, alongside Scorsese's nod for Best Director, underscored the film's impact and resonance. However, the film did not win in any major categories which left the fans disappointed.

 

The 96th Academy Awards ceremony took place on March 10, 2024, at the Dolby Theatre, with Jimmy Kimmel as the host. Check out the winners:
