Tom Cruise shot deadly Mission Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One stunt on first day of shoot: "Do we all continue or is it a major rewrite?”

Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise, who recently released the full-length trailer of the action-packed movie, Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning Part One, is gearing up for the release of his next. Helmed by Christopher McQuarrie, the seventh installment in the franchise is the longest one yet. One of the stunts is billed as the deadliest one in Cruise's career yet. The actor shot that stunt on the first day of the shoot as a lot of production money was riding on the movie.

In the movie, Cruise rides a motorcycle off an edge of a cliff and then parachutes to safety in the deadliest stunt. Speaking to Empire Magazine, Christopher McQuarrie said, “Doing that on day one gave us all the time in the world to understand why he [Ethan] was doing what he was doing. If we sat around and tried to figure out these movies the old-fashioned way, you’d never find it, simply because it’s such a living, breathing thing.”

 

Tom Cruise, however, had a practical reason to shoot the stunt on the first day  “Well we know either we will continue with the film or we’re not. Let’s know day one!” Cruise recently told Entertainment Tonight. “Let us know day one what is going to happen: Do we all continue or is it a major rewrite?”

 

“I was training and I was ready,” Cruise added. “You have to be razor sharp when you’re doing something like that. It was very important as we were prepping the film that it was actually the first thing. I don’t want to drop that and go shoot other things and have my mind somewhere else. Everyone was prepped. Let’s just get it done.”

 

This time, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, and Simon Pegg reprise their roles whereas he is joined by Hayley Atwell. In Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) and his IMF team embark on their most dangerous mission yet: To track down a terrifying new weapon that threatens all of humanity before it falls into the wrong hands. With control of the future and the fate of the world at stake, and dark forces from Ethan's past closing in, a deadly race around the globe begins. Confronted by a mysterious, all-powerful enemy, Ethan is forced to consider that nothing can matter more than his mission – not even the lives of those he cares about most.

 

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One will open on July 12, 2023, with Paramount and Skydance. Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part II will hit theaters on June 28, 2024.
