25 Years of Rajakumarudu: Vyjayanthi Movies celebrate Mahesh Babu’s debut film opposite Preity Zinta: “Holds an everlasting place in our hearts”

Twenty-five years ago, a young Mahesh Babu stepped into the limelight with the romantic comedy, Rajakumarudu. This film, a watershed moment in Telugu cinema, marked the beginning of a journey that would transform the child actor into one of India's most celebrated and highest-paid stars. Released on July 30, 1999, under the banner of Vyjayanthi Movies, Rajakumarudu was directed by the legendary K. Raghavendra Rao and paired Mahesh Babu with the Bollywood star, Preity Zinta.

The film's success was nothing short of phenomenal. With a record-breaking 100-day run in 44 centers, it raked in a staggering Rs. 10 crores at the box office – an unprecedented feat for a debutant actor at the time. On this occasion, the production house tweeted the poster along with a caption that read, “A special film that marked the debut of Prince @urstrulyMahesh, which holds an everlasting place in our hearts.

 

 

 

Rajakumarudu’s music, composed by Mani Sharma, became an instant hit, and the chemistry between Mahesh Babu and Preity Zinta was adored by audiences.
