The viral photo, which surfaced on social media, was taken by a prison staff member and shared by his wife. The suspended officials include jailers Sharan Basappa Amingad and Prabhu S Khandelwal, assistant jailers L S Kuppeswamy and Srikanth Talwar, and head warders Venkappa, Sampath Kumar, and K Basappa. The state government has condemned the incident, calling for strict measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

 

Public reaction and family’s outrage

 

The incident has provoked outrage from the family of the murder victim. Renukaswamy’s father, Shiva Gowda, described the situation as shocking, stating, “We trusted the police and the justice system, but this news is shocking.” He also expressed his disbelief at Darshan’s lack of apparent remorse, saying, “Looks like he does not have any guilt for committing a crime.” Shiva Gowda has called for a CBI investigation and urged the state government to take strong action against Darshan.

 

 

Background on the case

 

Darshan, who was arrested on June 11 alongside his close friend Pavitra Gowda, is accused of being involved in the murder of Renukaswamy. The crime, which allegedly stemmed from social media disputes, was committed on June 9. Renukaswamy’s body was found in a stormwater drain, approximately 10 kilometers from where he was killed. The motives and details surrounding the crime continue to be investigated by the police.

 

This incident has not only raised concerns about prison management but also about the broader implications for the judicial system's handling of high-profile cases.
