Roja pair Madhoo and Arvind Swami to reunite in Thalaivi, actress reveals she watches old clips of VN Janaki for prep

Back in February 2020, it was reported that actress Madhoo will star in as V.N. Janaki in Kangana Ranaut starrer Thalaivi. Popularly known for her performance in Roja, she will essay the role of the wife of actor-turned-politician MG Ramachandran (MGR). Interestingly, Arvind Swami, who starred in Roja, is essaying the role of MGR.

Speaking to a daily, Madhoo revealed that though she never met Janak Amma, she did in fact meet J Jayalalithaa as the actor-turned-politician had felicitated Madhoo with State Award for Roja. She revealed that the late Jayalalithaa had praised her performance.

 

Further talking about the role of V.N. Janaki, Madhoo said that director AM Vijay has already done a lot of research and taped it in a video. She showed the video recording to them before kick-starting the shoot. She tried to bring nuances and gestures of Janaki Amma in her performance by watching old clips of her. She said that it takes a lot of effort to replicate a real person since every minute details matter.

 

The film stars Bhagyashree as J Jayalalithaa’s mother as Kangana Ranaut plays the lead role.
