Akbar Khan, who was recently seen playing Chandan Roy Sanyal's strict dad in F.A.L.T.U, will now be seen playing the character of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein in a film directed by Suresh Kohli.
The docu-drama titled From President to Prisoner focuses on the last few years of Saddam's fight against US imperialism. Khan was finalised after a long selection procedure and many applications. Kohli adds, "When the idea came up to make a film on Saddam Hussein, I kept Akbar Khan's photo next to Saddam's and everyone agreed and said that he would be the best person for this role. Akbar agreed too. Now we are working the logistics to start and launch this film."
Akbar Khan too is excited and is looking forward to this more as a challenge, He says, "It's a very challenging role. The world opinion on Saddam Hussein is divided into two parts. For half the world, he was a hero and for the other half he was a villain. I am looking forward to playing this role."
The docu drama is based on a book Safar Zindagi Ka written by popular writer Aziz Burney.
From President to Prisoner will go on floors in September 2011 and will be shot in Iraq and other real locations.
