Akshay Kumar has broken his silence on the video of him featuring in a new advertisement of pan masala brand Vimal with Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn. The video went viral on the internet on Sunday, October 8, and fans reacted strongly, slamming Akshay for breaking his promise to disassociate himself from the brand.
In a tweet, Akshay clarified that the ad was shot on October 13, 2021, before he announced his disassociation from the brand. He said, "These ads were shot on 13th October, 2021. I have not had anything to do with the brand ever since I publicly announced the discontinuation of the endorsement. They can legally run the already shot ads till the end of next month."
Akshay had first endorsed Vimal Pan Masala in 2021, but after receiving backlash from fans, he apologised and said that he would no longer endorse tobacco products. He also donated his entire endorsement fee to a worthy cause.
“The brand might continue airing the ads till the legal duration of the contract that is binding upon me, but I promise to be extremely mindful in making my future choices. In return, I shall forever continue to ask for your love and wishes,” read an excerpt of his official statement, which was shared on his social media in April 2022.
Coming to the professional front, Khiladi Kumar is currently seen in Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue, which was released on October 6. The film revolves around the heroic act of the late Jaswant Singh Gill, who saved the lives of 65 miners. Directed by Tinu Desai, it also features Parineeti Chopra.
