Recent news of the involvement of the CEO of the Censor Board of Film Certification, Rakesh Kumar, in corruption shocked the industry. After allegations of Kumar accepting bribes to pass films came to light, an investigation into the same had been launched. Post the investigation Kumar had been remanded to judicial custody, for which he had later applied for bail.
However, on Friday a special CBI court rejected his bail application on the grounds that investigations in the bribery case indicated that even the co-accused in the scam were working at his behest. Further citing other evidence, like witness statements that show co-accused 'worked at Rakesh Kumar's behest' and the fact that Rs 10 lakhs had been recovered from Kumar's house along with 33 branded watches and Rs 65 lakhs worth of jewellery.
While rejecting the bail application, special CBI judge RN Joshi observed that even though the alleged crime was not heinous, it could affect the entire generation.
