Just a couple of days back, we saw a gleaming Vidya Balan at the National Awards ceremony, receiving the best actress award for her smash hit film The Dirty Picture. While The Dirty Picture has managed to sweep all the awards, the Kannada film by the same name, starring Veena Malik and directed by Trishul, has got irked Ekta Kapoor in a big way. And hence she has now gone ahead and filed a case against the makers over the use of her film's title.
What's surprising here is that, the title of the film has got a clearance from the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC). Now, Ekta has written a letter to KFCC's President, requesting him to withdraw the permission for the use of the title by Venkatappa. And for this, she has given them a five-day deadline.
On the other hand, director Trishul is totally indifferent to Ekta and her claims. In an interview to a leading daily, he said that there is no bar on keeping a title of any other language film to be made in a different language. He also added that there were several precedents before this. He also cited examples of a Kannada film called Housefull (title inspired by Hindi movie) and Bhadra (Telugu title). He challenged the situation stating that, since they have legally obtained clearance from the KFCC, why should they change the title now. He clarified that besides the title of the film, there is no similarity between the two films. He also claimed that his story is original and is not an 'inspired copy' of the Hindi film.
Over to you, Ekta Kapoor!
