The body that deals with censorship of films in India is undergoing change on the highest level. Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), which was till now helmed by Sharmila Tagore, has reportedly appointed Leena Samson as the new Chairperson.
Leena, a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer and writer, succeeds Sharmila Tagore who has held the position the Censor Boards Chairperson for two terms. However, Samson isn't one to be taken lightly as among the honours conferred on her, she was also awarded the prestigious Padma Shri for her outstanding contribution to the art of Bharatanatyam as well as the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award instituted by the apex cultural body of the Government of India.
Reportedly, the I&B ministry will be making an official announcement to the effect soon.
