An alumnus of National School of Drama, Delhi, Sahi started off with a theatre career, later graduating to films. She collaborated with noted auteur Govind Nihalani and made her debut with the 1984 film Party.
Later on she subsequently acted in Aghaat in 1985. After marrying filmmaker Ketan Mehta, she acted in several of his films including Hero Hiralal, Maya Memsaab and Oh Darling! Yeh Hai India.
