Screening ad films giving out public service messages in theatres before the actual movie begins is not very new. But Ajay Devgan and Kumar Mangat, the producer of Omkara, have taken it to the next level. The two have produced a short film directed by Farouque Kabir, which appeals people to keep the city clean and not throw plastic bags and other litter on streets which in turn chokes up the drains. Titled as The Awakening, the three minute short film is screened across cinema halls in India, just before Omkara starts. Titled The Awakening, the film has an interaction between Ajay Devgan and a small kid who lost his parents in the Mumbai floods on 26th July 2005. Ajay Devgan then shares his own bad experience on that day. Says Kumar Mangat that the original idea to make such a film came from Ajay Devgan. The film was shot recently during the heavy rains in first week of July. They have released 400 prints of the short film across India. He also adds that this film is his and Ajays gesture to give back something to the country.
