Before we think that this is yet another Jatt superhero in the making, let us assure you that this time around it is Ramayana that has been an inspiration. Punjabi filmmaker Anurag Singh recently wrapped up Super Singh starring Diljit Dosanjh as the protagonist.
REVEALED: Diljit Dosanjh turns superhero in mythological styleThis film that has Diljit, playing a superhero for the first time, has a mythological twist with the famous character Hanuman acting as an inspiration along with a blend from the west, that of Superman. From what we hear, the hero will be sporting red underwear over blue pants but along with that he will also be seen wearing a turban. Before audiences start drawing comparisons to the Remo D’Souza’s directorial The Flying Jatt, the director maintained that he being a devotee of Lord Hanuman decided to use the qualities of the mythological hero which includes his energy, wisdom and devotion as the basis of Diljit’s character in the film.
Calling it a film that marries mythology with modern technology, Anurag was more than happy about the fact that his concept impressed producer Priti Shahani of Junglee Pictures. According to him, Priti termed it as a clutter breaker. Mr. Singh also denied any kind of inhibitions or fear considering the way the recently released superhero film A Flying Jatt received a low response. He revealed that classic tales require a modern retelling but since we cannot match up to Hollywood style due to lack of finance, we have to compensate with unique story telling.
While the details of the actress in the film are yet to be revealed, Super Singh marks the debut of Ekta Kapoor as a producer of Punjabi cinema. Currently in the post-production, the film is expected to release by June 2017.
