The multi-billion dollar turn-over mobile company Vodaphone is taking the trend of screening feature films on the mobile format to a new high.
At the 3 GSM World Congresss at Barcelona to be held from Feb 12-15 and to be attended by 215 countries Vodaphone will have a festival of mobile-format films.
Our own Sanjay Gupta has been invited to attend the festival. Says Gupta, "I've already shot three of my proposed Dus Kahaniya series. I plan to take the two stories Zaher and Gubbare, plus the latest story Rise & Fall featuring Sanjay Dutt and Suniel Shetty if I can get it ready on time. This festival is prestigious for me on many levels. We'll be taking the short-story format to the cell-phone technology, and also because Robert Redford will be there with his five short-story collection."
Gupta and Redford will be the only representatives of Bollywood and Hollywood, respectively.
Gupta is expected to be accompanied by Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt, the latter's participation is dependent entirely on whether he acquires legal permission to leave the country.
Says Gupta, "I'm only interested in taking cinema to another level. And our company's roster of directors proves it. We've everyone from Shoojit Sarkar and Sujoy Ghosh to Homi Adjani and Deepak Tijori. I am not interested in conventional films or filmmakers. The cellphone format was always the aim for our short stories. That's why were going to Barcelona."
