T-Series denies acquisition of Udta Punjab music rights

en Bollywood News T-Series denies acquisition of Udta Punjab music rights

Just yesterday Mid-Day released a startling news development that the music moghul T-Series has acquired the music rights of the Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Diljit Doshanjh starrer Udta Punjab for a whopping Rs. 18 cr. Further the article went on to state that this new deal has surpassed the amount earlier paid to acquire the music rights of the Salman Khan starrer Prem Ratan Dhan Payo that sold for Rs. 17 cr.

Reacting to the news Priya Gupta, President Films-T- Series says, "First and foremost Udta Punjab music is not with us. Secondly a film like that does not attract music rights for more than Rs. 3 crores. The news is not only incorrect but also irresponsible".

Following the statement from T-Series, we decided to contact Anurag Bedi of Zee Music for their side of the story. However, just short of an official confirmation Bedi shared a link of the track 'Chitta Ve' from Udta Punjab that clearly features the music label. Looking at this we guess the higher echelons at Zee in all their wisdom would not have paid such an astronomical sum for the music of a film that clearly caters to a niche audience. In fact as per our sources the music rights of the film have been sold for around 25% of the quoted price.

If that isn't evidence enough the posters of Udta Punjab that were released by the film's makers earlier clearly feature the logo of Zee Music instead of the label mention by the tabloid. In such a case how can it be possible for one music label to pay for the acquisition of another? Though we know Udta Punjab deal with the drug addiction problems of a Punjabi rockstar we wonder what the guys at the tabloid were high on, guess they didn't realize that research and corroboration are the key words when reporting. Shakespeare had once said, "What's in a name? that which we call a rose. By any other name would smell as sweet" but in this case we guess the name is the one thing that it all hinged on.
