The Aamir Khan starrer Dangal that features him playing a role based on the life of wrestler and coach Mahavir Singh Phogat released a while back in China. However, despite the film hitting screens in China much after its worldwide release in December 2016, Dangal has literally been outperforming most new releases in this market.
Now on its 24th day running in China Dangal, whose collections witnessed a dip during the week have spiralled upwards with reports stating that the film managed to rake in a staggering USD 6.51 million [Rs. 42.03 cr]. Interestingly, while the collections of Dangal spiked over the weekend, the Sunday collections of the film in China which rank it second after the new release Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is still considerably higher than the combined total of the rest of the film that make it to the top 10 grosser list.
With this the total collections of Dangal within the Chinese market currently stands at USD 137.56 million [Rs. 888.15 cr]. But with the film continuing to run in theatres within the Chinese market, the target of Rs. 900 crores doesn’t seem like a distant mark anymore.
