In just a little over six months after Raees, Shah Rukh Khan is now coming back with Jab Harry Met Sejal. Now that is good news not just for Shah Rukh Khan fans but also industry in general since a biggie MUST do well in the current Box Office scenario. Not even a single Hindi film has turned out to be even a reasonable grosser since Badrinath Ki Dulhania and that was way back in March this year. Hindi Medium did well though its audience was limited. What the industry needs is a film that goes past at least the 150 crore mark and then preferably even enters the Rs. 200 Crore Club. Clearly, a lot needs to be done.
This brings one to the merits of Jab Harry Met Sejal. This one is THE Shah Rukh Khan film. Period. It has been ages since he was seen in a quintessential romantic musical entertainer and the stage, set up and platform of Jab Harry Met Sejal allows that. Moreover, he is coming with Anushka Sharma and together they have given a couple of romantic musical successes - Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan.
The film is looking good too in terms of the gloss and cinematic experience perspective. It is a kind of film that you want to watch on the big screen. The songs have worked too, what with Pritam spinning his magic all over again.
What one waits to see though is the kind of storytelling that Imtiaz Ali has adopted for Jab Harry Met Sejal. Post Jab We Met, which was a 'desi' rooted film, each of his films has turned out to be a rather niche affair. Love Aaj Kal, Rockstar, Highway, Tamasha - These films have carried certain merits but then except for the first in the list which did cover a major distance, rest all have seen a mixed response. For Imtiaz to get into a bigger space, it is not just Shah Rukh Khan's presence that would help but also a kind of story telling that takes one back to the Jab We Met or even Love Aaj Kal range.
All of this pretty much balances out the equation which leads one to believe that even on a conservative scale, Jab Harry Met Sejal should take an opening of Rs. 17 crore at the least.
