Qarib Qarib Singlle and Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana were the two new releases of the week gone by and both were aiming at the same target audience, which is multiplex 'junta' at major urban centers. With Irrfan Khan and Rajkummar Rao in the lead roles respectively, the films did turn out to be niche to an extent and that reflected in the collections as well. Both films had a low opening and though there was jump over the weekend, it wasn't of the kind of magnitude that would have made the makers pop champagne there and then. Moreover, even though the films stayed stable over the weekdays, it was on the lower side.
As a result, the first week of Qarib Qarib Singlle stands at Rs. 12 crore* whereas Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana is at Rs. 6.50 crore*. Ideally, double of these numbers would have placed both the films in a much more comfortable situation as they would have easily got into a green zone in one week flat. Also, the release size too was optimal enough to gain such kind of collections.
The good news though is that the word of mouth for both the films wasn't bad which means they didn't crash per se during the weekdays. Even in the second week, both films have managed decent showcasing and hence there would be some sort of collections coming before their theatrical run comes to a close. While Qarib Qarib Singlle would be aiming at Rs. 18-20 crore lifetime, Shaadi Mein Zaroor Aana should surpass Rs. 10 crore total.
