Sarbjit, the Omung Kumar directed film based on the life of an Indian national who was detained in Pakistan, released on Friday. Featuring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Randeep Hooda and Richa Chadha, the film opened on a decent note.
In this box office report, we take a look at the opening weekend collections of Sarbjit while comparing them to that of the previously released biopics. Interestingly, Sarbjit despite its promotions and hype comes in last collecting Rs. 13.96 cr, unable to beat the earlier release Azhar which was based on the life of ex-Indian cricketer Mohammed Azharuddin that collected Rs. 20.8 cr. In fact the top three biopics are Farhan Akhtar's Bhaag Milkha Bhaag that collected Rs. 32.3 cr, Priyanka Chopra's Mary Kom that collected Rs. 30.60 cr and Sonam Kapoor's Neerja that collected Rs. 22.01 cr.
Simultaneously, considering this is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's second cinematic outing since Jazbaa we decided to compare them as well. Here again Sarbjit loses out to Jazbaa. Taking second place, Sarbjit did not manage to out beat the collection of Jazbaa that were pegged at Rs. 15.24 cr.
