Gangubai Kathiawadi released last week on Friday opened to a huge response from the audience. The Alia Bhatt starrer that received positive reviews performed better than expected on its first day. If that wasn’t all, the business of the film witnessed immense growth over the weekend, with collections soaring on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Now on its first Monday as well the film has managed to hold steady, with morning and afternoon shows seeing around 15% occupancy rate.
Interestingly, reports coming in suggest that Gangubai Kathiawadi has seen an increase in patronage from women, with some locations seeing the audience majorly comprise of women. A source from Saroj Cinema (Amravati) near Nagpur states that scenes within the auditorium were reminiscent of a Salman Khan starrer, only this time it was women dancing to the first garba track ‘Jhume Re Gori’.
As for evening and night shows, reports claim that the film has seen a majority of its tickets being sold out. Given the current rate of booking evening and late evening, shows could well record the occupancy rate of 90% plus across national multiplex chains. Thanks to this Gangubai Kathiawadi is all set to pass the crucial ‘Khooni Monday’ test with flying colours.
Besides leaving a lasting impact at the box office on its first Monday, with the Mahashivratri holiday tomorrow, the business of the film is expected to see yet another jump. In fact, the holiday will also aid the night shows on Monday and shows on Tuesday as well.
