The tag of 'Khooni Monday ' became quite a rage after being used in a song in Go Goa Gone . What's interesting, however, is that just like everyone else, even our Bollywood folks find Mondays dreadful. Wonder why? Read on to find out…
The first weekend of every film these days is considered to be the high priority period. Reason being that a film stands to do maximum business on the first three days of its release - namely Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Mondays, however, are the true litmus test for even the biggest of the releases as the drop in the business determines the run of a film through the remaining days of the week.
In this analytical report, we compare first week business of the some of the films of 2013, referring to their BO collections of each day, to shed light on how Mondays are dangerous for films. From the table, we (not surprisingly) see an increase in BO figures over the weekend, while Mondays show a steep drop. From the figures in the chart, we can safely consider a drop of 50% to 55% in collections on Monday as compared to the collections on Sunday.
Interestingly though, Aashiqui 2 and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani , which are two of the biggest money spinners of this year, faced a drop of 43% and 42% respectively on Monday over Sunday collections, which is lower than the average drop of other films.
Concluding this analysis, it is more than evident why weekends have become such high priority days, especially the extended and holiday weekends that have gained prime importance, with every biggie in the business jostling after it.
