SS Rajamouli’s much awaited RRR has surpassed all industry expectations as the early estimates suggest an opening day in the range of Rs. 18 to 20 crores. This is around 25 percent higher than the general expectation of Rs. 14 to 15 crores. While the film was slow on the advance front, the spot bookings were terrific across the board, be it multiplexes or single screens. This is also one of the biggest non holiday openings in the Hindi film industry.
Mumbai was the best faring circuit for RRR, followed by Gujarat, Bihar, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Punjab. The Southern belt was relatively slow for the Hindi version, as its respective South Indian versions were on a complete rampage in places like Chennai, Hyderabad, Karnataka, and Kerala. The talk around RRR is extremely positive and the early feedback suggests that SS Rajamouli magic has clicked yet again among the cine goers.
The three national chains have collected around Rs. 7.75 crores, which is again higher than even multiplex driven films like Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi, on par with Ranveer Singh starrer 83. While the contribution of national chains for 83 was around 70 percent, the single screens have come to support RRR in a big way, which means the national chain contribution of about 45 percent (like Bachchhan Paandey).
The biz will just escalate from hereon, and the target for RRR will be to clock a weekend Rs. 70 crore. The genre is single screen friendly, and with a positive talk, it’s expected to have a long run in the mass belts. The tickets were priced on the higher side, and this was always a risky move from the makers, but thankfully, with positive reports, the same should translate into ample footfalls and collections to take everyone associated with the Hindi version in the black.
These are simply phenomenal figures, more so because it’s a non-holiday release. This opening just suggests that the film would have easily clocked an opening of Rs. 25 crore plus if it was a Holi release. RRR has enough capacity to bring in the numbers and full credit to the distributors to get optimum showcasing to this mega budget epic. The film has braved the wave of The Kashmir Files to the extent that it has even overpowered the film all across the Hindi belts and it makes a statement that an exciting film can always get its due credit at the box office, no matter what the opposition is.
With this opening, SS Rajamouli has cemented his position as the biggest brand of Indian cinema, as he has given an excellent opening in the Hindi belts with literally two fresh faces.
