20 Years of Kal Ho Naa Ho: Delnaaz Irani reveals the scarf entanglement bit was not intended: “I was very nervous; Shah Rukh Khan handled it with such confidence and EASE; made it to the final cut”

Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) completed 20 years, on November 28. The iconic romantic drama starred Shah Rukh Khan, Preity Zinta and Saif Ali Khan and all three of them delivered terrific performances. But the supporting cast, too, were memorable. One such actor was Delnaaz Irani. As Sweetu, Naina's (Preity Zinta) neighbour and best friend, she left a mark and added to the film's entertainment quotient. In an interview to Hindustan Times last month, she shared some interesting trivia.

Delnaaz Irani talked about the scene where Aman (Shah Rukh Khan) tries to set up Sweetu with Frankie (Dheepesh Bhatt) on the boat. While doing so, Delnaaz's scarf gets entangled in SRK's shirt. But Shah Rukh deentangled it and made it look natural. And the same shot also made it to the final cut.

In another interview with The Times Of India, Delnaaz again spoke of this episode and said, "I was very nervous and I did not know how to bring it up. But Shah Rukh, who had noticed it, just went on to disentangle the scarf and carried on with the lines and the scene like it was just nothing. Such confidence and such ease with which he handled the entire bit. The entire bit has been kept and it's still there in the film and it looks seamless. It's amazing how he beautifully undid the scarf from his jacket button and made it look so natural."

Delnaaz Irani further told Hindustan Times, "Kal Ho Naa Ho was the biggest and the best thing that ever happened to my career." She also added, "Karan (Johar) and I were in the same age group. We were in different schools, but we used to participate in inter-school elocution competitions."
