Anupam Kher stars as Dr. Vijay Kapoor, head of the Neurological Department. The medical drama was created by David Schulner. It stars Ryan Eggold, Freema Agyeman, Janet Montgomery, Jocko Sims, Anupam Kher, and Tyler Labine.

Based on the book Twelve Patients: Life and Death at Bellevue Hospital by Eric Manheimer, New Amsterdam premiered its second season on September 24, 2019. In January 2020, the medical drama was renewed for three additional seasons.
