Over the years, Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurana has built credibility with his choices of script. However, a couple of films of the actor failed to impress the audience. One of them is Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, which released in December last year. As the film will soon turn a year older, Khurrana opened up about its poor performance at the box office while calling the country “homophobic”.
According to a report by, Khurrana said, “In fact, my last three films, including an LGBTQ film (Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui), really don’t do well commercially because, unfortunately, our country is homophobic. Then there was Anek, a docudrama that was very niche in terms of the tone of the film. Doctor G was an A-rated film, and given the kind of certification it got, the film did decently well in theatres. For a while, that was my learning for making a film.”
The report further quoted him saying, “If I stop taking risks, I will be conventional. I have always been unconventional, and I make those choices. I will be taking them in the future as well, regardless of success or failure.” For the unversed, Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui featured Ayushmann opposite Vaani Kapoor, who played the titular character of a trans woman.
Coming to his professional front, the 38-year-old actor was last seen in Doctor G, which was released in October. He is gearing up for his next release, An Action Hero. The Anirudh Iyer directorial, also starring Jaideep Ahlawat, is slated to release on December 2.
