One of the most loved and jovial directors of Bollywood, David Dhawan, is set for an epic comeback. His last film was Coolie No 1 (2020) and now after nearly four years, he will once again wear the director’s hat for a romantic comedy, reportedly titled Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. It stars Varun Dhawan and Mrunal Thakur and as per the latest reports, it is all set to go on floors on November 6. Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to David Dhawan recently and he shared more details about the shoot.

David Dhawan revealed that the initial plan was to take the film on floors in October but due to his illness, the shoot was pushed. He also said that his son Varun insisted that the film should go on floors when the filmmaker is in a better condition.

David Dhawan revealed, “We’ll shoot in Goa and on a set in Mumbai. I have not been keeping well and I was also hospitalized. My son refused to shoot with me. He told me, ‘Get well and then we’ll shoot’. He was right. Hence, I will not shoot in October. I had the dates but I declined (to take the film on floors).”

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is David Dhawan’s 46th film as a director and is produced by Ramesh Taurani of Tips Films. Both had earlier collaborated on Govinda-Urmila Matondkar’s Kunwara (2000) and Coolie No 1 (1995); the latter was a joint venture between Tips and Pooja Entertainment.

Recently, Bollywood Hungama exclusively spoke to Ramesh Taurani and he also spoke about this film, “It’s on track. We’ll shoot in November for 20 days. It’ll be released on October 2, 2025, as scheduled.” What about reports that besides Mrunal Thakur, the film also stars Sreeleela? Ramesh Taurani signed off by saying, “No, she’s not.”

Meanwhile, Varun Dhawan is on a roll. His web series, Citadel: Honey Bunny, will be released on November 7 while his much-awaited action film Baby John will see a release on December 25 in cinemas. Apart from David Dhawan’s next, he’s also shooting for Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, co-starring Janhvi Kapoor. He’s soon expected to start shooting for Border 2 as well.
